Pulses


Pulses are dried seeds of plants that belong to the legume family. They are a rich source of proteins, amino acids, carbohydrates and several vitamins and minerals essential for the human body. They have a high fibre content and they contain no cholesterol and very little fat. They form a significant part of the staple diets all over the world. Research indicates that the consumption of pulses can reduce the risk of heart disease.

Chickpeas

Chickpeas belong to the species Cicer arietinum. Chickpeas are low in fat and they are a good source of protein, minerals and vitamins. The two major varieties of chickpeas are ‘Desi’ and ‘Kabuli’. Desi chick peas, also known as Bengal Gram, is smaller in size and higher in fibre content compared to Kabuli chick peas (Garbanzo Beans).
